Spacebirds-1 Re-Released!

 

Друзья, рад сообщить, что понемногу обновляем бэк-каталог. 23 сентября 2021 г. на основных цифровых площадках (Spotify, Apple, Яндекс Музыка, Youtube, Boom, VK и др.) выйдет ремастированное и расширенное переиздание дебютного альбома Spacebirds, который так и назывался "Spacebirds". Альбом был записан в 2008-2009 гг. и впервые вышел в 2010 г. Стилистику его, пожалуй, можно охарактеризовать так: Analogue Minimal Acid Disco. Весь материал альбома и в самом деле на 90% записан с использованием аналоговых монофонических синтезаторов, а "движущая сила" аранжировок - секвенции и эйсидовые басы. Мне этот альбом всегда представлялся... излишне минималистичным, поэтому я даже несколько удивлён, что на Bandcamp нашего цифрового лэйбла Laser Visa у него наибольшее количество прослушиваний. И вот альбом ремастировали, добили несколькими бонус-треками и дали ему вторую жизнь. Итак, 23 сентября открываем уши и слушаем!

Friends, I am glad to announce that we are gradually updating the back catalog. On September 23, 2021, on the main digital platforms (Spotify, Apple, Yandex Music, Youtube, Boom, VK, etc.), a remastered and expanded reissue of the debut album Spacebirds, which was called "Spacebirds", will be released. The album was recorded in 2008-2009. and was first released in 2010. Its stylistics, perhaps, can be described as follows: Analogue Minimal Acid Disco. In fact, 90% of the material on the album is recorded using analog monophonic synthesizers, and the "driving force" of the arrangements is sequences and acid bass. This album has always seemed to me ... too minimalistic, so I'm even a little surprised that it has the most streams on the Bandcamp of our digital label Laser Visa. And so the album was remastered, finished off with several bonus tracks and gave it a second life. So, on September 23rd, open our ears and listen!

“Fly, my toy starship, where no man's foot has gone! Fly to the toy stars! "

A collection of rare songs that were not planned for publication. All of them are completely played on children's toy musical instruments - from synthesizers and bass parts (the famous Casio SA series of children's instruments - from the vintage SA21 to the modern model SA76) to drums and percussion. Everything was recorded without the participation of computers, so, of course, childish negligence, sloppiness of the mix, which we, however, decided not to correct, rushes into our ears: this negligence gives these tracks the childish spontaneity that we were trying to achieve.

Most of the effects are also "squeezed" out of toys: even analog space sound is made on an unnamed children's toy, modernized by the famous inventor of unusual synthesizers Dmitry - VTOL - Morozov. From the “additional instruments”, the recording “featured” the Korg Kaossilator Mini (yellow) and the vocoder from Novation Ultranova. Well, and samples of the voices of the astronauts. Otherwise, it's a little messy toy pop in its purest form :)

All compositions were recorded in 2009 - 2014, previously published “separately” - singles and in collective collections. Forward to toy stars!

“Лети, мой игрушечный звездолёт, туда, куда не ступала нога человека! Лети - к игрушечным звёздам!”

Коллекция редких песен, которые не планировались к изданию. Все они полностью сыграны на детских игрушечных музыкальных инструментах - от синтезаторных и басовых партий (известная серия детских инструментов Casio SA - от винтажной SA21 до современной модели SA76) до барабанов и перкуссий. Всё записывалось без участия компьютеров, поэтому в уши, конечно, бросается детская небрежность, неряшливость сведения, которое мы, однако, решили не исправлять: эта небрежность придает этим трекам ту детскую непосредственность, которой мы и пытались добиться. 

Большая часть эффектов также “выжата” из игрушек: даже аналоговый космический звук сделан на безымянной детской игрушке, модернизированной известным изобретателем необычных синтезаторов Дмитрием - VTOL - Морозовым. Из “дополнительных инструментов” в записи “поучаствовали” Korg Kaossilator Mini (жёлтый) и вокодер из Novation Ultranova. Ну, и сэмплы голосов космонавтов. В остальном это в чистом виде немного неряшливый игрушечный поп :)

Все композиции записаны в 2009 - 2014 гг., ранее публиковались “порознь” - синглами и в коллективных сборниках. Вперёд - к игрушечным звёздам!

REVIEW via FAR FROM MOSCOW

The most closely related recording in the last few weeks has been an album from Moscow's Spacebirds, one of the countless side-projects operated by Evgenii Kharitonov (aka Eugene Kha). The tracks were all recorded on Arturia synthesizers, in other words on tools of French origin - and it was precisely French spacepop that had a great influence in Russia, following Jean Michel Jarre's "Oxygène" in 1976. While cynicism exploded in music of the UK, mid-70s continental offerings preferred the grand or orchestral leanings of Jarre and other operatic Frenchmen. Themes of space and galactic grandeur prevailed over the social critique echoing from British radios.
Spacebirds' new "Dreamscape" album is replete with some loud sci-fi cover art (above), showing a spaceship "going boldly where no man has gone before." The destination on display, though, is a huge ball of fire - maybe not the wisest stopping-point. Hyperbolic narratives, however, have no time for such mundane concerns.
Romance, risk, and a knowing smile are all rolled into one.
Important here is the element of kitsch that we see in much of the music and its visual presentation. Kitschy artifacts by their very nature are a blend of two elements: high levels of sentiment and the lowly workings of commerce. They are the result of a private yearning thrust into the public marketplace, to the point where the personal desire they once expressed loses all forms of dignity. Kitsch forms of expression mirror the dual pressures audible in these recordings: a lonely idealism and the dead weight of commerce.
